GOP Donor Elizabeth Shaffer Gets 20% of Her Donations from Other Republican Donors

Shaffer has raised over $16,000 from Republican donors.

If you donate to Republican candidates [1]…

And 20% of your donors are Republicans [1]…

And you’re anti-labor [2] and pro-criminalizing marijuana [3]…

Should you be running as a DFL candidate?

These are good questions for Elizabeth Shaffer.

As former Minneapolis DFL Vice Chair Mike Norton put it in the Hill & Lake Press:

“The most electable path for Elizabeth Shaffer is to make you think she’s a Democrat (even though her political stances and donations to Republicans would lead you to believe otherwise).” [4]

Elizabeth Shaffer’s donors are responsible for hundreds of property violations across the city in the last two years alone. [5]

Ward 7 deserves a leader who will work to ensure all of us have a place to call home — not take money from corporate landlords who are breaking the rules.

None is worse than out-of-state corporate landlord Brian Fitterer: half a million to Trump [6], max donation to Elizabeth Shaffer [7]

AG Ellison reaches settlement with landlord that illegally charged for utilities”

The landlord in question was Brian Fitterer, who settled a lawsuit from the Attorney General’s Office by agreeing to pay $5 million in a case that impacted “at least 4,000 households.” [8]

But before the “California trailer-park king turned swimsuit designer,” [10] was ordered to pay restitution to his tenants, he maxed out a donation to Elizabeth Shaffer.

Elizabeth Shaffer is not on your side.

As a member of the Parks Board, Elizabeth Shaffer has a troubling record.

She worked against union park workers last summer. She diverted funding away from youth programs and rejected county money to expand greenspace, just to preserve parking for her wealthy neighbors.

She is now trying to take her troubling track record  to the City Council in Ward 7.

As a member of the Minneapolis Park Board, Shaffer has repeatedly stood against working people, in order to protect the interests of a wealthy few. She wants to preserve a select few parks in the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods as playgrounds for the rich. She does not see the parks as shared resources for everyone - and she would govern that way on Council.

As a member of the Park Board, Shaffer has done the following:

  • Voted against union park workers [2]

  • Attempted to re-criminalize marijuana [3]

  • Diverted funding away from youth programs [11]

  • Voted against an ADA accessible Greenway ramp [12]

  • Preserved parking over parks [13]

Shaffer’s Park Board demanded back pay from park worker Indica Medeira who went on maternity leave after giving birth to her pre-term son. [14]

Anyone who paid attention to last year’s park worker strike knows Elizabeth Shaffer is anti-labor.

But reporting from the Star Tribune shows just how Elizabeth Shaffer is giving the moniker new meaning. Under her leadership, the Park Board demanded  back pay from a worker who went on maternity leave.

LIUNA  Local 363 had to file a complaint to protect Indica Medeiros from having her maternity pay clawed back, because it’s clear people like Elizabeth Shaffer will never stand up for workers.

If Elizabeth Shaffer won’t stand up for Park workers on maternity leave, why should we trust her to stand up for Ward 7?
